As Nigeria is celebrating her 61st year of gaining Independence from the domination of British colonial masters on October, 1st 1960, Hon. Goke Odetunde urges Nigerians to increase their spirit of nationalism.
Hon. Goke while addressing his supporters in his country home at Yidi Apomu in Isokan local government of Osun state described independence as an act of setting one free from bondage as well as an act of gaining freedom from the obnoxious policies and forced unpaid labour of the colonial administration.
In his statement, Hon. Odetunde described Nigeria as a country that is endowed and blessed with numerous natural resources that can cater for the needs and aspirations of the entire citizens of Nigeria leading to the name "Giant of Africa" as it's known by most African countries but it is sardonic and sympathetic that some factors are militating against the growth and development of Nigeria as a country, issues like Insecurity, Kidnapping, Bandit, Corruption, devaluation of currency, secession from the federation ( as in the case of oduduwa republic and Indigenous people of Biafra IPOB ) which he described as mere hindrances which can be tackled and overcome by Nigerians as long as we exhibit the spirit of nationalism cum feelings of patriotism.
He charged all and sundry to emulate the good deeds and the positive lifestyles of some of our nationalists people like Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe, Sir. Ahmadu Bello, Chief H.O Davies, S.L Akintola, and a host of others who have fought vigorously for the freedom of Nigeria as the only panacea to one Nigeria is the "spirit of togetherness" as indicated by the motto of the nation "Unity, Faith, Peace, and Progress"
On the final note, Hon. Odetunde opined that in a way to take Nigeria to her enviable height, there is a need for democratic and progressive leaders who can fight for the yearnings and aspirations of the entire Nigerians. Therefore, people should shun political apathy and exercise their right to franchise by voting for the best set of leaders whose citizens' welfare is their utmost priority.
He described the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the only political party that can proclaim a better Nigeria and takes the country to the dreamland.
