Hon. Goke Odetunde, the immediate past Chairman of Isokan Local Government, Osun State in his democracy day message emphasized on the need for democracy to be viewed as a system of government where the interests of the citizens are paramount by all tiers of government. He charged the government with the responsibility of safeguarding these interests and ensuring that all policies and actions reflect the will and welfare of the people.
In his address Hon. Odetunde revealed that to promote and safeguard democracy, the government should engage in citizens-centered governance, stressing that the core of democracy is the protection and promotion of citizens' interests, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs met.
He further called on political officeholders to exhibit accountability and transparency acts to the people they serve to uphold democratic values. The welfare of the citizens should always be the primary focus, with government initiatives and resources directed towards improving their quality of life- He opined.
Hon. Goke Odetunde called for a renewed commitment to democratic governance, where the true measure of success is the well-being and satisfaction of the citizenry-Hon. Goke concluded.
