As a dedicated APC chieftain and the party's chairmanship candidate in the upcoming Isokan LG election, I, Hon. Goke Odetunde, feel compelled to address the unwarranted criticism directed at our respected Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi.
A misinterpreted video has sparked unfounded accusations of incitement—a clear misunderstanding and misconception. The APC's loss to the PDP in the House of Representatives race between Hon. Lanre Oladebo and Hon. Taiwo Oluga in the Irewole/Ayedaade/Isokan Federal Constituency was a fair decision made by people determined to protect their communities—not the result of interference by Oba Kayode Adenekan.
The language and statements from certain leaders, especially remarks from the Olufi of Gbongan, contributed to a reactionary wave that ultimately affected the election outcome. Personally, I was publicly insulted and called a "bastard" for standing firm in defending our party in my community, a stance that nearly led to my assassination. I am grateful for the Alapomu's intervention, which helped defuse tensions even after the election, as the repercussions of my stand continued.
Our party's loss in the election was due in large part to the underperformance of other local governments within our constituency. This is further evidenced by significant losses in areas like Gbongan and Odeomu—Hon. Oluga's hometowns—highlighting that the party's challenges extend beyond Apomu or any single individual.
I strongly condemn the language used in the party's press release, which unfairly accuses our monarch of incitement. Rather than jumping to conclusions, the APC state chapter should have consulted our local community and investigated thoroughly at the grassroots level.
Our monarch, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, the Alapomu of Apomu Kingdom, is a pillar of peace, unity, and fairness in our community, and these baseless accusations only serve to divide us further.
As APC members, we must focus on addressing our internal issues and reconnecting with the people. Only by doing so can we position ourselves for victory in future elections, especially in 2027—without unfairly targeting those who stand as symbols of unity and peace in our community.
